James McGurk - Managing Director, SGS United Kingdom Ltd

James oversees business, operational and functional activities, affording strategic leadership and direction within the United Kingdom. Working with a team of seven business leaders, James ensures the effective execution of Inspection, Testing, Certification and Verification activities across a diverse service portfolio encompassing eleven broad industry sectors. Since joining SGS in 2002, James has become a trusted source of business and industry insights, leading engaged, highly motivated and dynamic teams to anticipate change and deliver innovative, value adding services to the SGS portfolio. He continues to hold specific responsibility for Oil and Gas, having led this line of business within SGS for the last six years.

More recently, James has and continues to guide SGS through the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, ensuring the safety of all staff and interfaces, with specific focus on SGS support activities within the Environmental Health & Safety, Medical Device, Personal Protective Equipment and Life Science sectors – assuring continuity of service for all critical national infrastructure.

James was educated at Glasgow University and holds a Masters with Honours in Modern History and Philosophy.  Other qualifications include IOSH and CII certification.

Simon Knowles - Maine Pointe (a member of the SGS Group)

Simon has over 25 years’ experience working in the B2B market and has a strong track record in consulting, management and corporate development. He is a highly regarded strategic thinker and leader who has led teams in the UK, Europe, US, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). At Maine Pointe he has been a driving force behind the development Total Value Optimization™ (TVO). TVO helps executives and CPOs drive measurable improvements in cost, cash, growth and risk management across the end-to-end supply chain. Simon also has management oversight responsibilities for Maine Pointe in Europe.

Kristopher Whitfield - Business Development Manager for Supplier Risk Management Solutions

Kristofer Whitfield (BSc hons) has worked in the audit and supply chain risk management sector for 17 years with direct; technical, operational, delivery and commercial experience. As part of his previous roles he has worked alongside the Utilities, Rail, Oil & Gas, Construction and FMCG sectors within the UK and across the world; delivering supply chain risk management programmes. In addition to this he has operated at senior management levels including the day to day operational and technical management of a £17m Global Audit business. This experience has seen him develop audit content and operational workflows for the delivery of 11,000 annual supplier audits within the multiple sectors. This has included major developments in the supplier risk evaluation models and site-specific audit content. In addition to this, his knowledge and experience has been used to develop programmes in other areas including but not limited to Social Responsibility, Business Continuity, Modern Day Slavery Compliance and Chemic l Product Stewardship.

Jeff Dowson - Business Continuity Expert

Jeff has worked with SGS for almost 28 years. As a qualified industrial chemist, with practical experience in quality, environment, H&S, sustainability / ethics and security, Jeff joined SGS as a quality auditor. He then went on to develop Environmental Management Systems for the company, before co-authoring the OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety standard. Subsequently, Jeff worked to develop Integrated Management Systems auditing to meet customer demands for more efficient auditing methodologies. He also sold and managed projects on supply chain validation with major companies like Philips, where SGS were presented with a supplier award for our part in the success of their Ethical and  Sustainable Supply Chain program. Jeff also has in-depth knowledge of ISO 22301, ISO 28001 and TAPA security standards.

During his time at SGS, Jeff has worked with many of the world’s largest brand names to ensure they gained maximum benefit from effective auditing of their supply chains with both ISO standards and bespoke standards and ensuring their often complex supply chains deliver to the high requirements needed. Jeff has the ability to make complex things simple and show the true advantages of having effective systems.

Terry Coyle - Principle Product Manager

Terry has over 13 years' auditing experience with SGS, having joined the company after ten years industry experience of implementing and maintaining Quality, Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety and Energy Management Systems is various manufacturing industries. Using this knowledge, Terry now manages a team of eight Product Specialists with oversight of SGS’ extensive UKAS accreditations whilst maintaining Lead Auditor status for ISO 50001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and the specialist aerospace standard AS 9100

Having worked with and audited many leading organizations Terry has gained significant knowledge and experience of management systems across a wide variety of industry sectors. Through his understanding of industry best practice and in keeping up-to-date with current and proposed legislative requirements, Terry is recognized as a reliable and trusted source for organizational insights and support.
