The objective of this webinar (45-minute presentation / 15-minute Q&A) is to inform the audience on the FSVP requirements, how US importers should address them to be compliant, and how foreign suppliers can help their US importers comply with FSVP.
Agenda
- What is the FSVP rule, and how does it impact US importers?
- Risk assessment requirements
- Foreign supplier preparedness
- Q&A
Background
The US FDA Food Safety Modernisation Act (FSMA) shifts the focus from a reactive approach to a preventive approach to foodborne illness outbreaks, and is based on seven foundational rules for compliance. One of these rules is called Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). The rule applies to US food importers, with specific compliance timelines attached. The FSVP rule requires importers to share responsibility for ensuring safety of imported food. It is risk-based according to types of hazards, importers, and suppliers. The rule also provides flexibility with regards to supplier verification activities conducted by other entities and food authorities in countries with comparable or equivalent safety systems.
