UK Import Easement – Declarations Required from 1 July 2021 - Are You Ready for the Next Stage?

April 29, 2021
UK Import Easement Declarations Required from 1st July 2021

The first shipments which arrived into the UK under the delayed declarations facilitation will need to be declared to HMRC via a customs agent with the appropriate HMRC authorisations from the 1 July.

The government created an easement to enable UK companies to delay import declarations for up to six months, for standard goods. While this is helpful in reducing the requirement for declarations at the UK border at present, it requires importers to ensure they have the appropriate arrangements in place to make the declarations.

SGS offers a service to expertly guide clients through this process. From the initial conversation to gauge requirements and outline the data involved, to completion of the required declarations using our HMRC authorisations, clients can proceed with the confidence that imports will be communicated accurately and in a timely manner.

Brian Dakers, SGS’s Business Development Manager for eCustoms said, “We are speaking with a number of importers who are only now unpicking the requirement for delayed declarations, which will be absolutely necessary for many businesses from 1 July onwards. While there is no need to panic, the process requires a collaborative approach to ensure data held is sufficient, and HMRC can be informed in a timely and concise manner. We urge businesses to speak with us sooner rather than later, so resource can be allocated appropriately.”

With combined experience of over 100 years in customs and international trade, SGS United Kingdom Ltd are well positioned to support UK companies taking advantage of the ability to delay declarations and offer:

  • Free, no obligation appointment to discuss requirements
  • Concise, timely declarations using SGS’s own GTA software combined with all relevant HMRC authorizations
  • Collaborative working throughout
