Ballast water is essential to the safe and efficient operation of shipping – which moves over 80% of the world’s commodities and transfers approximately three to five billion tonnes of ballast water internationally every year.

However, ballast water poses a serious ecological, economic and health threat through the transfer of the invasive aquatic species it inadvertently carries. TM 0112 has been introduced to regulate the discharge of ballast water and reduce the risk of non-native species from ships’ ballast water.
Now approved for issue, the TM 0112 method includes a number of updates for determining the potential corrosive effects of ballast water treatment systems on ballast tanks.
SGS has created a summary guide to help you keep up to date with the changes to the specification and the latest requirements for measuring ballast tank corrosion from ballast water treatment systems.
