UPDATE NOVEMBER 2014 - for all your ESOS needs visit our new ESOS Solutions page at www.sgs.co.uk/esossolutions

ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems is confirmed as an alternative route to being deemed compliant with the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), offering complete compliance with the scheme provided that it covers at least 90% of the organisations total energy use.

ESOS has been confirmed as applying to large undertakings which meet any one of the following criteria:

  • 250 employees or more; or
  • Has fewer than 250 staff but has an annual turnover exceeding €50m and a balance sheet exceeding €43m
  • Is part of a corporate group which includes a large undertaking.

If you are required to participate in the scheme, initial qualification must be determined and notified to the scheme administrator by 31 December 2014. Compliance with the scheme will then be required by 5 December 2015.

Apart from ESOS energy audits a number of alternative routes to compliance have been identified, the most comprehensive of these being certification to ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems.

SGS United Kingdom Ltd, will be running a complimentary webinar on the 24 July 2014 to explain the key requirements and timeframe of ESOS which will enable organizations to determine if they qualify for the scheme, what will be required of them, the options available to them to demonstrate compliance and answer any questions you may have.  Every attendee to the webinar will receive a complimentary ‘Compliance with ESOS’ pack.
