SGS United Kingdom Joins Safety Schemes In Procurement (SSIP) Forum
Backed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), SSIP acts as an umbrella organisation created to facilitate mutual recognition of health and safety assessments between pre-qualified schemes.
In addition, the forum actively advises and influences buyers about acceptable interpretation and appropriateness of health and safety competence standards in UK schemes.
In the construction sector, companies are required to have CHAS registration, but as clients of SGS their OHSAS 18001 audit reports will be recognised and the CHAS audit waived, thus giving a two yearly saving.
Current and future SGS clients will benefit by saving on the two yearly assessment fee and time and costs required to prepare for a Contractors, Health and Safety Scheme (CHAS) audit.
SGS clients will naturally continue to benefit from their OHSAS 18001 certification, which include:
- Reduced accident investigation time
- Reduced process training for new staff
- Reduced litigation and reduced legal fees
- Possible reductions in insurance premiums
- Increase in public image
- Increased environmental awareness when linked to health and safety
- Improvements in staff recruitment
For SGS, membership of the SSIP forum means more access to potential new clients, fresh networking opportunities, feedback from the scheme, and more insight into client perspectives.
HSE actively supports the work of the SSIP forum, and is confident that the process of accreditation carried out by any member scheme will be consistent and fit for purpose.
