Consumer Goods and Retail SVHC High Risk Screening
Substances of very high concern (SVHC) high risk screening from SGS - achieve compliance at reduced cost with smart assessment.
REACH’s requirement for SVHC communication on all electrical and electronic (E&E) articles, presents a complex and potentially very costly burden on manufacturers of E&E products for sale within the EU.
Since its creation in 2008, the SVHC list has grown and in 2013 included some 144 substances. It is expected that this list will continue to grow, increasing pressure on the industry. Our SVHC high risk screening programme has been developed to tackle these challenges and minimise the risk of non-compliance for SVHCs with a high probability of appearing in E&E articles.
How does the programme help?
Not all SVHCs are found in every E&E product, so we help clients to narrow down the testing requirements. We combine data from literature with our own testing expertise to identify all SVHCs that might be present in a specific product. This means that testing is then only required for those high risk SVHCs identified, and noted as present in quantities greater than 0.05% weight by weight (the assessment base is the weight of the whole Article, as defined under REACH).
SVHC High Risk Screening provides a cost effective, intelligent and reasoned evaluation strategy enabling clients to safeguard their E&E consumer products. The programme is designed and conducted in accordance with the European Chemical Agency’s (ECHA) Guidance on Requirements for Substances in Articles (version 2, April 2011, section 5). It focuses on compliance for REACH article 33 (communication of SVHC in the supply chain).
On average, our smart screening process cuts the number of SVHC to be identified by more than 80%, greatly reducing testing costs and shortening turnaround times.
Our SVHC services
In addition to our high risk screening programme, we can offer you SVHC full screening for E&E articles. Alternatively, if you are looking for something similar to the high risk screening programme, our SVHC Evaluation Analysis is a product material specific statistical evaluation, coupled with confirmatory testing. This analysis service is based on our SVHC test data, as well as information supplied by your supply chain.
