Consumer Goods and Retail EU Biocides Regulation
Achieve European Union (EU) biocides Regulation (EU) 528/2012 compliance with SGS.
This EU Regulation entered into force on 1 September 2013. It repeals and replaces Biocides Directive 98/8/EC and aims to provide a high level of protection for humans, animals and the environment. Detergents and household products destined for sale within the EU must meet its requirements.
Benefits of the Biocides Regulation
The introduction of new measures concerning product authorisation, data sharing and data requirements will deliver significant cost savings. Building on lessons learned under Directive 98/8/EC, the new regulation simplifies and streamlines the requirements for approving active substances and authorising products. The new provisions will also reduce animal testing by making data sharing compulsory and encouraging a more flexible and intelligent approach to testing.
Dedicated product registration
A dedicated IT platform (the Register for Biocidal Products) will be used for submitting applications as well as recording decisions and disseminating information to the public. The new Regulation is also the first piece of legislation to build in the new Commission definition on nanomaterials.
