As an independent third party, not tied to merchants or traders, we are able to offer impartial, objective and accurate analysis. Our seed and grain testing laboratory is a DEFRA (APHA) licensed seed testing facility and is approved for analysis under both the TASCC and GAFTA assurance schemes. Our qualified, experienced analysts use internationally recognised methods to remove any doubts about the quality of your seeds and grains.

Seed analysis

We offer advisory testing of farm saved seeds:

Disease analysis

Grain quality analysis

SGS offers a wide range of analyses to determine the quality of your milling, malting, oilseed and feed crops. Competitively priced packages are available to cover analysis of the major quality parameters of milling wheat and malting barley. Analyses include:

  • Protein
  • Hagberg
  • Nitrogen
  • Admixture
  • Moisture
  • Natural weight (NW)
  • Oil content
  • Gluten
  • Infestation
  • Analysis of borage, crambe and other oilseeds

We also offer rapid mycotoxin analysis for grain. Don, Zearalenone and Ochratoxin testing can usually be completed the same day.

Submitting your samples

You may submit your samples by post or in person at our Driffield laboratory. To avoid delays, samples should be clearly marked with identification along with your analysis requirements.

For germination testing please indicate the type of test you require. If you request a germination test you will receive a 'grow on' test. If you require a rapid germination test please request RTV.

Note that a sample size of 1.2kg is required for stem nematode testing in beans due to new requirements.

The results of your analysis will normally be emailed to you on the day of completion.
