SGS Certifies Unipart Rail
SGS United Kingdom Ltd. is the first governing body to certify a company to the new S02 standard, a part of the Railway Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS), run by the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB).
In July 2017, SGS certified Unipart Rail, who are a supply partner to the rail industry, covering traction and rolling stock, to the new S02 standard, as part of the RISAS scheme.
The RISAS scheme is the UK’s mainline rail industry’s supply chain approval body for critical products and services. It was designed by the railway industry to assure that Safety Case Holders, such as Network Rail, the passenger and freight operators and other major customers, are able to rely upon the integral safety of the products and services of their suppliers.
This new standard within the RISAS scheme covers Products Groups Procurement, Storage and Transport Processes and it is the first time that any governing body have offered this certification, choosing SGS as the certification body.
Jason Edmonds, Rail Operations Manager, SGS said: “SGS was very keen to conduct the first assessment of a company, for supply chain management processes. We were pleased to support this development of the RISAS scheme. Congratulations to Unipart Rail on being the first company to achieve the standard and to the RSSB for expanding the scheme beyond its traditional areas.”
