ISO 50001 – Energy Management Systems – Certification
Comply with the new ISO 50001 Energy Management standard and you will find it easier to improve energy performance, cut costs and both meet and exceed customer expectations.
Effective energy management systems (EnMS) help your organisation to establish processes to improve energy performance. Implementation should reduce your energy costs, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts. ISO 50001 establishes an international framework for the supply, use and consumption of energy in industrial, commercial and institutional organisations.
Implement an ISO 50001 compliant sustainable energy management system and demonstrate that your organisation has completed a baseline of energy use and is committed to continuously improving its energy intensity.
SGS with its global network of qualified energy management professionals can help you through the process towards becoming ISO 50001 certified with training, gap assessment and certification audits.
Achieve ISO 50001 certification with independent assessment and audit from SGS to stand out from the competition and commit to energy efficiency.
Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) in the UK
The Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is the UK’s response to Article 8(4) of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive. This legislation requires all large undertakings in the UK to introduce independent and cost-effective energy audits. Any undertaking meeting the criteria below must undertake its first energy audit before the 5 December 2015. The scheme will then run in four yearly cycles.
A large undertaking is a company, charity, or joint enterprise which meets any one of the following criteria:
- 250 employees or more; or
- An annual turnover exceeding €50 million; and
- An annual balance sheet exceeding €43 million
The public sector is not required to participate.
ISO 50001 certification has been identified as a route to compliance with ESOS, providing it covers at least 90% of the undertakings total energy usage. Accredited ISO 50001 certification, covering 100% of energy usage, is the only alternative route to ESOS compliance that will not require the involvement of an ESOS Lead Assessor.
